Frequently Asked Questions

With construction projects going on near the Hyatt, what directions should I use?

For directions and a map, please click one of the following file formats:
Powerpoint or PDF.

How do I sign up for an editor/agent appointment? If I didn't sign up when I registered, can I sign up now?

On the registration form there is the opportunity to rank the editors and agents from 1 to 7 in terms of your preference. If you filled out the preference grid when you registered, you don't need to do anything else. If you did not sign up when you filled out your registration form and now want an appointment, simply review the choices at www.chicagospringfling.com and send your rankings to djgross@umich.edu.

Can I change my editor/agent rankings?

The last date for agent and editor ranking changes was Friday, February 29th. If you need to cancel your editor or agent appointment, please email Deb Gross at djgross@umich.edu.

How are pitch appointments assigned?

Pitch appointments are assigned in the order your registration form and payment were received.

How do I sign up to participate in the Saturday open to the public book signing?

If you are interested in signing at Spring Fling's Saturday afternoon open to the public book signing, here is the information you need to participate. Sue Petersen of Brain Snacks will be running the book fair during Spring Fling. Please email Sue at sue@brnsncks.com with the following information for each book you want to have available:   Author, Title, ISBN. Brain Snacks logo

Again, just send that information along to Sue Petersen at sue@brnsncks.com. The deadline is March 17th, but getting the information to Sue as early as you have it would be lovely. For more information on Brain Snacks, visit www.brnsncks.com.

Can I bring promotional items to be distributed in the Goody Room?

Yes. We will have a goody table available in the book fair room, which should help drive traffic and sales. All are welcome to distribute promotional items. If you need to ship those promotional items in advance of the conference, the address to do so is:

Joelle Charbonneau-Blanco
(Spring Fling Conference Chair)
5520 Elizabeth Place
Rolling Meadows, IL 60008

Is there a special room rate at the Deerfield Hyatt for Spring Fling?

Yes. The rate is $79 plus state and local taxes. When you call the Hyatt reservations line (1-800-233-1234) be certain to ask for the SPRING FLING rate.

Which Chicago airport is closest to the Deerfield Hyatt? How do I get from the airport to the hotel?

O'Hare is definitely the closest airport to the Deerfield Hyatt. The Hyatt does not have an airport shuttle. Here are the two services they list for airport transportation:

American Taxi
847-255-9614
Estimated fare: $30 + tolls and tip from O'Hare ($60 from Midway)

Note: You call the cab company from the airport after you have your bags. They will tell you your cab number and where to meet your cab (usually at the second curb, you will see lots of folks waiting). Surburban cabs run off a flat rate + tolls/tip to and from the airport. Confirm the rate when you reserve. If you just hail a cab curbside at the first curb, this will be a Chicago city cab. They will run the meter and charge you double. You don't want to do that.

O'Hare Midway Limo
800-468-0211
Estimated fare: $42 from O'Hare (Midway fares not listed)

My friend/husband/partner is traveling with me to Spring Fling. Is there public transportation to downtown Chicago?

Yes. Your companion can take a short suburban taxi ride (the hotel might have to call if there is not a cab waiting for a fare at the hotel) to the Deerfield Metra Station. Metra is Chicago's suburban commuter rail system, really reliable, relatively inexpensive. The hotel website lists the cab fare to the train at $5 and the train fare to Chicago at $5. Saturday am trains run from Deerfield to downtown around every two hours and take about 50 minutes into Union Station (which is right in the Loop/downtown). The Deerfield Station is on the MD-N (Milwaukee District North) line. You can get schedules, fare information, etc... at www.metrarail.com.
